If you are a fan of Sailor Moon, there are plenty of events whether permanent as Shining Moon Tokyo is or temporary like the pop-up Sailor Moon cafe that happen in Shibuya or at events like the Sailor Moon Exhibition. Since 2014, Q-Pot Cafe has been having yearly collaborations called “Q-Pot X Sailor Moon” both at their cafe and flagship store in Tokyo.

Usagi’s birthday kicks it off every year on June 30th (or there about depending on how days fall with the weekends) and it runs to sometime in the middle of August. You have a choice of a fun treat, each with it’s own take home merchandise and there are other products for sale at the Sailor Moon cafe as well. Across the street at the main store, you can see other merchandise like jewelry and dresses.

Note that thanks to the Coronavirus in 2020 they have already alluded to the 6th collaboration as being merchandise only. However, as they continue to do this collaboration, the below should still stand for non-crazy years in the future!

[Editor’s Note: This post was originally published in November of 2016 and has been updated for freshness, accuracy and comprehensiveness.]

Tips for Sailor Moon Cafe Reservations

The reservation period for the Sailor Moon Cafe is first-come, first-serve (as opposed to a lottery, thank God) internet system. As with everything in Japan, I suggest you get on as soon as possible if you want to get a spot. It opens up a few weeks before the start of the event normally. And don’t worry if you don’t know Japanese (however, if you’d like to start learning, I highly suggest Minna no Nihongo), there is an option to change to English on their website! They have very good directions to walk you through the process.

Weekdays are a little less heavy for reservations in general so look at that as an option. You also get slightly more time during your time in the cafe to enjoy the decorations. Depending on when you sign up, the take home gifts you receive may change. If there are still openings available, you can still sign up after the initial reservation times.

You are required to select your meal (snack? it’s more like dessert) for each seat and pay at the time of reservation. You won’t be able to add food items later so choose wisely — and you can always get more than one if you want!

If you live in Japan and would like to buy some of the other products, you can also reserve those at the same time and have them shipped to you. This is a good thing because they tend to sell out!

How to Queue in Line the Day of

The queue area outside is well marked and you are allowed to enter 10 minutes before your appointed time. If you are running late, as long as you are there 30 minutes before your session is supposed to end, they’ll still let you in.

Sailor Moon Cafe Praline Planet Party @ Q-Pot Cafe

While I attended the Sailor Moon Cafe several years ago when it was dubbed “Praline Planet Party”. Each year the theme changes, in 2020 to commemorate the release of Sailor Moon Eternal it will be “Sugar Kaleido Dreams”. The idea of the food items and products is similar each year so this will give you an overview of what to expect as some possibilities!

The Cosmic Heart Macaron Plate came with the plate and the “special drink” (you can normally choose from two) for 3900 yen. Bit expensive for a dessert but the plate is a nice ceramic and you are also paying for all of the decorations inside I would think. The mouse cake is shaped like Sailor Moon’s Cosmic Heart compact (hence the name) as well as the cookie as you can see!

Let me first say, I LOVE parfaits in Japan. I know plenty of Americans that don’t like the addition of the corn flakes (you can see them near the bottom) but I love it. Such a good texture combination in my opinion. The Pink Sugar Heart Parfait is supposed to resemble Chibi Moon’s Pink Moon Stick and came with a coaster and a set drink for 2500 yen.

“Gift of the Moon Fairies Tea” was my set drink of choice and inspired by the three cats from the show: Luna, Artemis, and Diana. It had a blueberry cream taste.

Q-Pot Sailor Moon Cafe Collaboration Items

Because I got the two items with my cafe items, I only ended up getting one further item and that was one of the coffee mugs Q-Pot was offering that year with Luna, Artemis and Diana in silhouette. I chose to have it delivered because with plans to run around Tokyo, I didn’t want to carry it around. I love the handle.

Q-Pot Flagship Store

If the merchandise offered at the cafe wasn’t enough to fill your Sailor Moon needs, you can head across the street after your dessert to check out some of the other merchandise they offer. Forewarning, most of it is on the expensive end but it was fun to look at it. There are also some spots for photo ops on the upper level.

How to get to Q-Pot

If you are utilizing the JR Pass, the easiest way is to take the train to JR Harajuku station or for a closer walk, it’s only 3 minutes from the Omotesando Station on the Tokyo Metro.

If you haven’t figured out by reading some of my other posts, like my one on AnimeJapan or the Sailor Moon Exhibit that was in Roppongi, or the Sailor Moon Cafe pop-up I like to frequent, or my opening night attendance to the Sailor Moon Dinner Show/Restaurant Shining Moon Tokyo – I’m slightly obsessed with Sailor Moon. When I found out about the Sailor Moon Fan Club in 2016, I had to let my other super fan friends know. That includes you, wider world wide web audience!

[Editor’s Note: This post was originally published in July of 2016 and has been updated for freshness, accuracy and comprehensiveness.]

I may be obsessed with Sailor Moon

This, my friends, is also why I should be stalking the Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon Official Site on a near daily basis. There is always new news coming out that I am interested in. While Google’s translation feature has been steadily improving over the years since I first went to Japan and leaps and bounds since I first moved there, it also gives me an excellent case on why I need to improve my Japanese. It’s a lot more fun to read in the native language and I love any excuse to work on my kanji reading abilities.

I originally stumbled upon the Sailor Moon Fan Club when I finished watching the final episode of season 3 of Sailor Moon Crystal. I start purusing the internet for hints to when Season 4 is coming out. (Four years later, that’s finally becoming a thing in the form of Sailor Moon Eternal coming out September 11th, 2020!)

Where has the Official Sailor Moon Fan Club been all my life?!

Next thing I know, I stumbled upon the first official app for Android! Low and behold, it’s members only. Digging deeper and using all my brain power on translating a LOAD of Japanese, there it is. Official Sailor Moon Fan Club?!

2016 was the first year that the Sailor Moon Fan Club became available to overseas fans. Fan clubs are actually a substantial thing in Japan but it’s rare that they’d be offered elsewhere.

Now that it has been a thing for six years, every year you renew, you get new incentives.

What is included in the Sailor Moon Fan Club membership?

While it is slightly more lucrative to have membership while in Japan (there are events you can go to), it still has some perks to be a member of the Official Sailor Moon Fan Club, which is actually named “Pretty Guardians”.

You get a membership card. If you are renewing, it will have the same number as when you first registered. Each year it consists of a different illustration of the Sailor Moon characters.

Each year comes with a different “Nakayoshi” gift which I’m assuming they are using the “close friend” use of the word. in 2016 is was a lip gloss case in the shape of a broach. In 2020 it is Luna Pen Case for cosmetics. It includes a eye shadow pallet and brush inside.

If you are a renewing member, you get some additional swag of a bag and file set.

Access to the game that original lead me to this discovery.

Exclusive rights to special merchandise and events (I’m in Japan! I can GO to those events!!)

and more…

When can I sign up and how much?

Each year you have until Usagi’s birthday (Sailor Moon’s name) of June 30th to sign up. It costs 5500 yen or whatever that translates to with the going exchange rate to USD. There is also a 1700 yen fee for shipping all of your goodies.

If you have been in the club for 3 years you are considered a “Prism stars Member” and 5 years “Crystal Stars Member”. What’s that get you? A special bonus!

The first step is registering your email address, after that you can fill out your application, pay, and then wait patiently for your goodies to get to you!

Is membership worth it?

In the grand scheme of things, it is more just for fun. But if you love Sailor Moon trinkets as much as the next super fan, it does give you exclusive rights to different products! My membership is on its way, is yours?

Oh, and if you don’t want to miss signing up in the future? You can auto subscribe!

美少女戦士セーラームーン (Bishōjo senshi sērāmūn) or Sailor Moon was originally a manga by Naoki Takeuchi that started in 1992. In 1995, the anime made its way to America and I became a girl obsessed. So you can imagine how excited I was to learn about Roppongi Hill’s Mori Tower Sky Gallery. A special Sailor Moon exhibit?! Running from April 16 through June 19, 2016, I was there on opening day.

First impression of the Sailor Moon Exhibit

When you first walk in, the various theme songs are playing. The main entrance is supposed to be themed as part of the moon castle. With Tokyo Tower in the background views from the Mori Buildings 52 Floor Windows, there were some great photo opportunities.

To be further connected with the show, the main character, Usagi Tsukino lives in Azabu Jyuban which is apart of Roppongi, where the Mori Tower is located.

At night at the Sailor Moon exhibit, they have special lights projecting onto the various artwork timed with the music.

There are a few photo op locations and various artwork from the original series. More exciting was some brand new work done by Naoki Takeuchi herself. From what I’ve read, she also hand picked all the artwork that made it into the exhibit.

Along with the art and videos from the anime, there are a lot of the original products from the 1990s. There was also special figurines made specifically for the 20th anniversary.

Sailor Moon Crystal

The 20th anniversary also brought the remake of the anime. Or shall I say “reboot” as it’s based far closer on the manga than the original. Going by the name Sailor Moon Crystal, during the exhibit, it was in its 3rd season. While it has seen some criticism, I love it better than the original! The first season of Sailor Moon Crystal premiered on July 5th, 2014.

Walk down memory lane

I remember watching Sailor Moon before I headed to the bus stop in middle school. It played at 6 or 630 am if I remember correctly when school started and I woke up early just for it. Gobbling up any and all information I could about it, I remember my friends and I playing that we were each different Sailor Moon characters.

My first website was dedicated to Sailor Moon! Back in the day when you actually had to teach yourself Html in order to have something viable. I’ve been watching the remake religiously. The memorabilia in the exhibit was an even further walk down memory lane. I spent most of my time going “I have that”, “oh, and that too!” and “I never could find that!”.

The Fans make it

It was super fun to experience with so many other fans. Seeing my favorite Sailor Moon characters art work blown up so large (a 20 foot wall in one case) was pretty breathtaking.

To keep all the fans happy, like most events like this is Japan, there was a gift shop at the end with new original items. If you were hungry? A special cafe with Sailor Moon theme drinks and food (I went to this one instead).

All in all the exhibit was broken into about 5 different areas with various items from the series. It was great for any fan, new or old!

The Sailor Moon Exhibit

Most of the Sailor Moon exhibit you were not allowed to take pictures in. For those that could not visit themselves as this was a limited show, here’s some of the fun for you to experience.
